About the authors
Xiang Li
Xiang Li is a master Chinese watercolor artist renowned for her meticulous silk paintings. Her work is deeply rooted in decades of research into historical Chinese literature, allowing her to bring to life the expressions, attire, and personal stories of empresses who often lack surviving visual records. Li’s paintings are distinguished by their emotional depth and historical authenticity, reflecting her extensive experience, including 37 years at the Forbidden City in Beijing.
Fei Wu
Fei Wu, Xiang Li’s daughter, is a creative entrepreneur and the founder of the Feisworld Media. She collaborates with her mother to make traditional Chinese art more accessible through modern technology, storytelling, and digital platforms. Fei also contributes to Li’s blog, sharing insights into the historical context of the empresses and engaging with the art community. Together, Xiang Li and Fei Wu aim to bridge traditional Chinese art with contemporary audiences, preserving cultural heritage while fostering cross-generational appreciation.
