About the empress: Empress Wang (personal name unknown; died c. November 724) was the wife of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang dynasty. She became empress in 712 but later lost favor, partly due to her lack of a son. In an attempt to regain influence, her brother, Wang Shouyi, resorted to magic, which led to his forced suicide and her deposition in 724. She died shortly thereafter.
