The Northern Song Dynasty ended in 1127 after decades of military decline and political corruption. It fell to the Jurchen Jin invasion, culminating in the Jingkang Incident, when the Jin captured the capital Kaifeng and abducted Emperor Huizong, his successor Emperor Qinzong, and many members of the royal family. This marked the collapse of the Northern Song and the beginning of the Southern Song Dynasty, which relocated south of the Yangtze River.
