The Middle Ming (1450s–1550s) saw military decline and political struggles. The Tumu Crisis (1449) exposed vulnerabilities when Emperor Zhengtong was captured by Mongols. Eunuchs gained power, weakening imperial authority. Despite this, the economy flourished with silver trade and urban growth, while porcelain, literature, and painting thrived. However, corruption and attacks by wokou (Japanese pirates) eroded governance.
