The Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) can be divided into three periods, each shaping China’s history. The Early Ming (1368–1450s) began with Emperor Hongwu overthrowing the Yuan Dynasty and establishing a centralized government based on Confucian ideals. He reinforced the Great Wall and improved agriculture, strengthening the economy. The Yongle Emperor (r. 1402–1424) moved the capital to Beijing, built the Forbidden City, and sponsored Zheng He’s maritime voyages. His reconstruction of the Grand Canal boosted trade and stability.
