About the empresses:

Empress Chen Jiao (c. 173–112 BCE), also known as Empress Chen of Wu, was the first wife of Emperor Wu of Han. Known for her noble lineage, she became empress through political arrangements but fell out of favor due to her inability to bear children and her involvement in court intrigues. Deposed in 130 BCE, she lived the rest of her life in relative obscurity.

Empress Wei Zifu (c. 130–91 BCE), also known as Empress Xiaowu Si, was the second wife of Emperor Wu of Han and one of the longest-serving empresses in Chinese history. Rising from a humble background, she became a key figure in the emperor's court and bore him several children. Despite her influential position, her later years were marked by political struggles and personal tragedy, leading to her forced suicide in 91 BCE.
