About the empress:

Empress Xu (died 8 BC) was the first wife of Emperor Cheng of Han. She became empress due to her family's noble status but failed to bear the emperor an heir, which led to her losing favor. Although she didn’t bear children, she played a protective role over children in the imperial family. These children were relatives or young members of the extended imperial household.

Emperor Cheng’s affection shifted to his consorts, particularly Consort Zhao Feiyan and her sister. Empress Xu was deposed in 18 BCE after being accused of witchcraft, a charge likely fabricated by her rivals to eliminate her.
