About the empress: Empress Dou (Wen) (205–135 BCE) was the wife of Emperor Wen of the Western Han Dynasty and a pivotal figure in early Han history. Known for her wisdom and frugality, she supported Emperor Wen's reforms, which emphasized economic recovery and leniency. As empress dowager, she exerted significant influence during the reign of her son, Emperor Jing. A staunch advocate of Daoism, her policies shaped the dynasty's governance and promoted stability.
