About the empress
Empress Fu (died 1 BCE) was the empress of Emperor Ai of the Western Han Dynasty. She was selected as empress due to her family's prominent status, as her father, Fu Yan, was a powerful official. Despite her position, Emperor Ai’s affections were focused on his male favorite, Dong Xian, leaving Empress Fu politically marginalized. After Emperor Ai's death in 1 BCE, she lost her position and influence as Dong Xian’s fall led to the restoration of the previous emperor’s lineage. Empress Fu’s life reflects the shifting power dynamics and personal favoritism that shaped the Han court.
