About the empress: Dugu Qieluo (544–602), also known as Empress Wenxian, was the wife of Emperor Wen, the founder of the Sui dynasty. A daughter of General Dugu Xin, she married Yang Jian in 557. Their monogamous marriage was rare, and she bore all ten of his children. As empress, she was highly influential, advising Emperor Wen and earning the title "Two Holy Ones" with him. Known for her frugality, she played a key role in imperial succession, replacing their eldest son with Yang Guang, later Emperor Yang. Her life inspired TV series like The Legend of Dugu and Queen Dugu.
